Too few people know about all the amazing things Norwalk has to offer. The Oyster is our way of sharing what we find — because we want more people to see what we see.
Every day we learn about new ways people here can get involved and get to know each other. Norwalk is a special place, with so much potential to keep growing as a community of neighbors.
That cuts against a decades-long trend of people growing more isolated from one another. Civic engagement and affiliational life have been declining for far too long, and it shows in our health.
That's something we can work to reverse by getting the word out and celebrating the good things people are doing to bring people together.
To produce a great newsletter, we cast the widest net we can. The Directory is our running list of every group, space, event, and resource we find: a guide to the city, written by hand.
We envision Norwalk as a model for what a modern city can look like when it embraces our natural desire to feel pride in our home and a deep sense of connection with our neighbors. We want people in other cities to be inspired by how we do things here.
Norwalk has been harvesting oysters for over 350 years — once producing nearly a third of all oysters consumed in the United States.
